Brussel Sprouts are a newly found love of mine, and this restaurant inspired appetizer or side recipe is so easy to make and ready in just a few minutes in the air-fryer. You can also roast in the oven. These are not the mushy boiled brussel sprouts you may have had in the past- these have crispy outer leaves, with a tender middle- and the Asian flavored glaze, is the perfect pairing with a bit of saltiness from the soy and fish sauce, a bit of sweet and acid from the honey and rice vinegar, and a little spice (or a lot if you like) from the chili paste.
Air Fryer Asian Crispy Brussel Sprouts:
Clean and half or quarter 1 lb of brussel sprouts. For smaller brussel sprouts, halving works great.
Place is a bowl, and lightly coat in cooking spray- I like spray avocado oil, a season lightly with salt and pepper.
Place in the air fryer basket in a single layer - and airfry for about 13 minutes total at 350 degrees. Cook for 5 minutes, and give them a shake, then 5 more, give a shake, and then if needed do an extra-1-3 minutes of air-frying till tender with crispy outer leaves.
Set aside on a cookie sheet or bowl.
Asian Glaze:
In a small bowl, mix the following:
3 tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
1 minced clove of garlic
1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon fish sauce
1/4 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp Asian garlic chili paste (like sambal olek, Sriracha, adjust to heat preference)
Heat a small saucepan on medium and heat the mixture till it starts to thicken. Once thickened, pour over the cooked brussel sprouts, and toss. That's it, you are ready to serve!
