Ground Turkey and Bean Chili

This is literally a throw everything in the InstaPot or Crockpot, and walk away dish, perfect for weeknights and warming for winter nights ❄️

Easily can be vegetarian too- just eliminate the turkey and use veg broth instead of the chicken/beef broth.


  1. Brown the ground turkey With a bit of avocado oil, if using an InstaPot set to sauté setting and brown in the pot.

  2. Add diced onions and sauté with meat, as well as add garlic salt and chili powder to taste. I use 1 small onion.

  3. Add diced celery- I love celery for the crunch and the flavor from the leaves- use it all! 3-4 stalks

  4. Add all your favorite canned beans- I usually do kidney beans, chili beans, and black beans - this time used navy beans as I was out of kidney beans. 3 cans of beans total.

  5. Add your favorite stewed tomatoes, I do a mix of stewed with celery and onion, and tomatoes with cilantro and green chilies, and/or “chili ready“. Depending on how many servings you are making, 2-3 cans worked great for me.

  6. Add 1 large can of green chilies - optional, great taste but not very spicy.

  7. Add any other veggies you like- bell peppers, corn, kale, spinach are just a few options I have used before. Also if you like heat, a little fresh jalapeño does the trick. 🌶

  8. Chop fresh cilantro and add - about a half a bunch.

  9. If you feel it needs more broth/liquid, add chicken, beef or veggie broth- or just some water till you get the right consistency. Will depend on the beans you use and if you drain the canned beans or not (don’t drain the chili beans ;))

  10. Add some additional chili powder to taste, less or none will be needed if you used stewed tomatoes with chili powder.

  11. If using InstaPot or CrockPot, slow cook for at least 2.5hrs for all the flavors to come together. Otherwise simmer in a pot on the stove.

  12. I always taste at the end of the cooking time, to add any additional salt that may be needed.

  13. I love to add diced avocado to the bowl when serving. Can also add grated cheese and/or a bit of sour cream- whatever makes you happy 😊
